
Front teeth need to touch to allow proper speaking, eating and swallowing. Front teeth that used to touch and now are no longer in contact is a serious condition that can be progressive. While surgery is the most common recommendation to correct this deformity, there are several non surgical options to fix anterior open bite.


There are three main causes of anterior open bite that occur after puberty: TMJ bone loss, tongue bracing a damaged neck, Iatrogenic (i.e Bad Night Guards)

As you can see the above anterior open bites all look very similar, yet have different etiologies (causes). Patients with anterior open bites need a CBCT to definitively determine the cause. The cause of the open bite must first be determined for treatment to be effective.
